Paths of Thought

                     2001 By Philip .J. Eggerding

I go to ride the Paths of Thought, beyond that which divides.
To visit places few have been and know the other side.
I grieve to think so few have seen the shores my soul has sought.
So few have crossed the gulfing void spanned by these Paths of Thought.

For most remain untraveled, still, these Paths that bind us all.
The smaller minds refuse to see. Their ears hear not the call.
[Remain aloof. They're not our kind,] are words they often telse.
[Beware the stranger in our midst. Don't let them in, or else!]

But, do we differ, you and I? Is 'same' too hard to find?
Is it our fate to only see our differences of mind?
Why should we be dissimilar? Is all our flesh not warm?
And can't the fabric of each soul be similarly torn?

We'll never know the grief we cause until we feel it too.
We need to take another's path and taste their point of view.
It's only when we touch the world heard through a different ear,
That we will start to understand. Our minds will then be clear.

For if we hide within ourselves, alive we will not be.
We need to cut the bonds of self, in order to be free.
To gain perspective in this world... to truly know what's true,
We all must ride the Paths of Thought that change 'me' into 'you'.
